The Houston Texans are looking to have a magical NFL season in 2010 and the Washington Redskins are just hoping to get a win at home in this September 19th game. The Houston Texans win over the Indianapolis Colts was a statement game that laid down the gauntlet in the AFC South. The Colts will not rule the roost without a fight this year from the Houston Texans. The way the Texans won the game was an incredible twist, running Arian Foster relentlessly, rushing for 231 yards and three touchdowns.
On the East coast, Donovan McNabb and the Washington Redskins were not given much of a chance against the anointed Super Bowl favorites, the Dallas Cowboys. McNabb looked solid in his first game in the gold shoes and Washington Redskins duds but the real story was the ineffective Dallas Cowboys offense. Romo and his entire offense looked dazed and confused for much of the game. The Redskins won the game but it defined the term winning ugly.
Passing Attacks for Washington Redskins & Houston Texans Look to Get On Track
Running the ball and using a ball control offense was the name of the game for the Houston Texans in their NFL Week One game. This week look for the chains to be taken of the Houston Texans high powered passing attack led by Matt Schaub. Andre Johnson is itching to get on track for the 2010 NFL season and he will be matched up against DeAngelo Hall. This match up should be the key to the game.
In his first performance of the 2010 NFL season, Donovan McNabb was solid as the Washington Redskins quarterback. McNabb played a a pedestrian game that included 17 yards of rushing and put to rest any questions of his bad ankle.
McNabb’s weapons are few and far between on this team and Chris Cooley the tight end had 80 yards receiving in his first game. The number one receiver, Santana Moss had 77 yards receiving also. Look for McNabb to involve Clinton Portis in the passing game this week. The passing attack edge goes to the Houston Texans over the Washington Redskins.
Running Game for Washington Redskins & Houston Texans Should Have Different Looks
As a high powered offensive passing attack, most of the NFL did not see the Houston Texans running the ball down the throat of the Indianapolis Colts. This week the Texans will most likely go back to their bread and butter, the passing game. This does not mean Houston will abandon the run completely. Houston will still get Arian Foster his 20 carries but will use him to set up the play action.
It was a shock in NFL Week One when new Washington Redskins running back Larry Johnson only carried the ball three times for nine yards in this game. It was expected Johnson and Clinton Portis would be used as a one two punch and it will be interesting to see if gets more carries in this game. Portis will be used more as a passing back out of the back field as the season progresses. The edge in the running game goes to the Houston Texans but it is only a slight edge over the Washington Redskins.
