In my homeschooling experience I have found that math is one of the toughest subjects, for many students. One of the solutions that I have found to be useful is to take a portable math study center along with you wherever you go. A portable math center can easily hold all of the study material that you need for the day. Below you will find several tips on how you can create a portable math study center for your kids.
First you will need a large piece of cardboard. The best item to use for this is a cardboard box. Cut the bottom off of the box, and one of the sides. For the math center you will want to have one main center, and two sides. Once you have finished cutting up the box you can start putting the study tools that your child needs for math. Depending on grade level the type of materials that you place into the box can vary. For example if your child is learning their multiplication table, you an easily stick the chart into the box. I have found that taping the chart to the box works well.
The next suggestion is to hang up a medium, or large size envelope inside of the box. Tape the envelope so that it stays open. Inside of the envelope you can put flash cards that your child is using for math. For rulers, and larger items you can put up a larger envelope. This way you can easily keep pencils, and extra pieces of scrap paper that your child may need. Once you have finished making your portable math study center, your child can set it up and get started on their work for the day. When they are not using the portable math center they can easily fold it up and put it away.
What is really nice about this math center is that it will really boost your child’s confidence level. You will find that they are more confident when it comes to getting their school work done. Over time they will not need the extra study charts to help them finish heir assignments. Building a child’s confidence is one of the best things that you can do for your child. Another benefit is that if you have more than one child they will each be able to work in a private area, and really be able to concentrate on their work assignment.
