How can I speed up my laptop for free? That is a question that many people want to know. That is because most laptop products will cost more than desktop components. Desktop components are expensive as it is, but laptop memory and other laptop components will cost even more. So what can you do to speed up your laptop for free?
The most important thing that you can do is to delete all of your startup programs. You can do this by simply typing “msconfig” in your start menu. On the startup tab, you will just have to uncheck all of the boxes. The next thing that you can do is to use the Ready Boost feature if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7. This feature is only available if you have a spare flash memory available. You can use just about any type of flash memory that your computer can take. That means you can use SD memory cards from cameras if your laptop can read them.
Another thing that that you can do is, increase the size of the virtual memory to speed up the laptop. Virtual memory is capped at 4 GB, but the closer you are to 4 GB the faster your computer will be. You can do this by going to the advanced system options under the control panel’s system icon. In that same menu, you can also turn down the graphic options to speed up the computer. Advanced themes such as the Windows XP Zune theme, Windows Vista Aero, and Windows 7 Aero will use more CPU time and RAM. You can also do this by right clicking on your desktop to choose the Windows Classic theme. You laptop’s desktop won’t look as fancy, but it will perform a lot faster than it did before.
If you want your computer to perform even faster then you can ditch Internet Explorer. Just about every other internet browser is faster than the Internet Explorer browser. On slower laptops and desktops, Google Chrome seems to produce the most desirable performance compared to the other web browsers.
