According to a list published by the DDA (Downtown Development Authority) in the city of Ferndale, there are a total of 63 places in which you can eat anything from fast food to fine dining, have a drink or two while dancing the night away and enjoy improv comedy, or even theater.
Restaurants, bars, clubs and such top the list with a total of 44 in the 3.9 square-mile radius of the city. I did not include fast food establishments but there are 16 of those; I counted The Java Hut, the Dunkin Donuts & Baskin Robbins, the Hambo Coney Island, Honeybaked Ham, Pizza and Treat Dreams in the fast food category. Apparently there is no Burger King or Kentucky Fried Chicken in Ferndale, but almost all other big chain, fast food restaurants like McDonalds and Taco Bell are there.
There are two improv comedy places. One of them has improv theater also and one non-improv theater with reasonably priced tickets that are priced differently on different days. So if you don’t mind going out on a Monday night, you can get tickets for as low as $10. With all these fun and scrumptious hangouts, it’s no wonder Ferndale has earned the reputation of being “fun” and “funky” as well as fabulous.
