The running joke among my circle of girlfriends is that you know you’re old when you start paying attention to the anti-aging skin care commercials and wonder if the products will actually help you look better. Knowing how often to change your skin care routine depends on a lot of factors and the time-line varies for everyone. Everyone knows that as you get older, your preventive beauty needs change. Women also have to take into consideration nutrition and diet fluctuations, as well as other lifestyle choices. With all of the products out there, how do you know which line is right for you?
When I was a teenager, all I needed was a little blue jar of my favorite face wash and a bottle of witch hazel for the most problematic areas of my face. Paying no heed to the warnings of the miracle oil being too drying and harsh, my girlfriends and I would dab it onto our pimpled foreheads, thinking that there was no way our skin would ever stop producing an over abundance of oil. These days, I still recommend that same blue jar to my younger readers or finding another face wash that is non-drying and meant for their still developing skin. Buy a product and try it for a few weeks before deciding if it works for you. Look for ones without perfumes or chemical additives. Most of all remember that, like the article Skin Care: Some Tips For Teens Looking For Fabulous Skin says, “Too much poking and prodding of your face can cause scarring and infection” so take care of your face and then leave the blemishes alone!
This is the group that I am now finding myself in. Bombarded with the limitless beauty products for less wrinkles and a smoother youthful looking face, it is a struggle to know when to change your skin care routine. I have found that the process to finding out what works for me now is the same as earlier years. Research products, read reviews and check out articles like 4 Anti-Aging Treatments to Fight Against Wrinkles and take the time to find a regime that works for me. Some lines offer different bottles for different steps and others come in one handy wipe. Right now, I am using the latter because of time and budget restraints and the simple fact that it works for me in the present. Later on I may have to work in some more preventive measures, especially since my children are earning me my worry and laugh line badges but for now, I am confident that I am doing what is needed to keep my skin healthy.
All of the Ladies
You’ve heard it before and it is always worth repeating again, one of the most important parts of any beauty regime is protection. Use products that contain sunscreen or buy cute hats to shield your face from it’s damaging rays. If your lifestyle or diet changes, your skin can change along with it. Your favorite standby may become out-of-date as your needs change. Do not over-stress if you cannot afford the more expensive product lines, do the best you can with what you have. A good facial wash and moisturizer that is meant for your skin type can go a long way. A gentle beauty bar can do both in a pinch. Look into some natural at-home recipes, using things from your kitchen cupboard if you are really strapped for cash or would just like to incorporate living green when changing your skin care routine. Above all, follow the cue of your skin. If it doesn’t feel good and look healthy, it may be time to look into other products.
