“It is so hard to be a woman in a patriarchal society.” This is often stated by the feminist movement, and it must be said that both the statement and the context of the statement are not true. Let us examine some facts and leave the propaganda among our high school textbooks.
Do we really live in a patriarchal society? Many would say that, yes we do. However, women and men have had equal power and equal income opportunities and equal clout for several decades now. Are we so discontent that we need something to complain about and this is the best that we can come up with? The truth is, this society has not been patriarchal legally, socially or economically for many years. Now we must examine the real complaint: women are not yet considered head of the household. This is the only thing left in our society that puts men above women. Nothing else treats men and women differently. So why is anyone stirring up a fuss? Good question.
What women really want. Women, by their genetic nature, need to feel useful and necessary. We, as women, did not stir up any fuss in grade school or college when we were told that we live in a patriarchal society. We accepted these truths as self evident. We looked around us, and saw the “male ego” and assumed male dominance. However, this is not what really bothered us. We were not insulted by the male dominated society as much as we were insulted by our social science teachers. These instructors informed us that, because our society is male dominant, we are expendable and that we should be outraged. Then we had a problem. Nobody should be expendable.
How much are women worth? The strong trend in the year 2010 in fighting back against a misogynistic system never began with the patriarchal rule. It began when women were told that we were worthless to society. The female uprising was initiated, not by a sense of inequality or injustice, but by the statement that we were no longer necessary to the social stability. We were told that the male dominance is the reason for our worthlessness. Is this true?
Women are valuable and necessary to societal structure. It does not matter who says that we are not, we are. We cannot, in truth or by any means, be made less necessary than we always have been. So why is it that we are told that male egos will someday wipe us out? This is the argument given to support the fall of the patriarchy. We are being lied to in order to initiate a movement against men. Who is suffering from these lies? Women. Who is being truly dethroned? Men. So the question arises: what is the reason for pushing such propaganda? Women should not take the fall for a movement against male society and value.
This is the real bondage. Nobody truly knows why men and women are teaching that male dominance is making women unnecessary, but it is something which should be carefully watched, like a snake about to strike. If you are a woman who has been taught that our society is patriarchal, male dominated and that women are treated unequally, look around you. We are just as necessary as oxygen and nobody is being treated unequally except for the men.
