A traditional part of the annual Ellijay Apple Festival, which will be celebrating its 39th year over two weekends this fall is the 23rd annual Apple Queen pageant. It is sponsored by the Ellijay, GA Lions Club. This year’s pageant will be held September 25, with differ rent divisional pageants beginning at 2:00 with the Apple Queen pageant beginning at 7:15 pm. Rehearsals will be held the night before on September 24.
There are divisions for every age group:
Wee Apple Dumplin, 0 – 11 months
Apple Dumplin, 1 – 2 years
Miss Apple Seedling, 3 – 4 years
Miss Apple Bud, 9 – 10 years
Miss Junior Apple, 11 -12 years
Miss Apple, 13 – 14 years
Miss Apple Princess, Freshman/Sophomore
Miss Apple Queen, Junior/Senior
The deadline for entry is September 17, 2010 and will insure the contestant has their photo placed in the program. Late entries must be received by no later than September 23, 2010 and require a late fee entry of $25.00 and no photo will be in the program.
Entry into the divisions requires an entry of $30.00, and there is an optional entry fee of $40.00 for extra awards such as photogenic, prettiest smile, and prettiest hair. Each division also votes on a Miss Congeniality for good sportsmanship during the competition rehearsals. In each age division, the runner ups receive sashes and plaques. Those winning Miss Congeniality win a sash and trophy. Every contestant receives a medal and a free admission ticket to the event.
The grand prize winner in each category wins a tiara, sash, and flowers. The Miss Apple Queen receives a scholarship check.
Dress for the pageant is formal, pageant, or Sunday best. Miss Apple Queen does have a sportswear category.
Winners in each division are invited to participate in Apple Festival Events on October 9 – 10 and October 16 – 17, 2010. The parade is held for the Apple Festival in downtown Ellijay on October 16, 2010 at 10 AM. Miss Apple Queen will be the official Grand Marshall of the Parade, and all other division winners will be invited to participate in the parade as well.
