Perhaps you’ve discovered a typo in your guild name, or you wish to change your guild name to better reflect your guild focus or guild membership. Whatever the reason you want to change your guild name in World of Warcraft, it’s easy to do following these simple steps. It’s free, easy and relatively quick.
Who Can Change a Guild Name in WoW?
Only the Guild Leader can change the guild name in World of Warcraft.
How Do You Change Your Guild Name in WoW?
The Guild Leader must open a help ticket requesting the name change. To do this, select the help button (the red question mark on the menu bar) and select “Open a Ticket.” Fill out the required fields, and click submit. You should have a small window appear in the upper right of your screen alerting you that you have an open ticket.
How Long Will It Take for the Guild Name to Change?
For my guild, it took about a week. This is because a standard Game Master (GM) cannot approve the change; it has to be bumped up to a senior GM. You’ll know this has happened when your ticket alert says “Your ticket has been escalated.”
Will I Be Informed Before the Guild Name Change Happens?
No, but you will be informed WHEN the guild name change happens, via an in-game answer to your ticket and via email to the email address associated with your World of Warcraft account.
Tips for Changing a Guild Name
Spell check your guild name. I know, it seems obvious to make sure your guild name is spelled correctly, but we’ve all seen guild names spelled incorrectly and it gives the impression that the guild members don’t really care all that much about their guild – or the game.
Word your request politely. Again, seems like common sense, but in a game where communications can be brief and sometimes frantic, it’s a good reminder to mind your manners when making the request for a guild name change.
Make sure your new name abides to the World of Warcraft naming policies, linked here or in the links section of this article.
