There are so many wonderful things you can create with your craft and crochet skills. A very fun project that takes only beginner level crochet skills is to crochet your very own homemade tablecloth. There are so many styles and colors that you could decide to use for this project and show off your personal style.
While it is every bit as easy to create a rectangular shaped tablecloth, I have decided to go with a square shaped for this tablecloth project. Here is everything you will need and everything you will need to know to crochet and create your new homemade tablecloth. Most of the items listed are things you will likely be able to find in your closet at home. If you do need any of these items, i would suggest clicking here to view a great selection on all of the needed items listed below.
Needed Items For Crochet Tablecloth :
1. A medium sized crochet needle
2. A spool of yarn for each color you want in your tablecloth
3. A few yards of trim ( if desired )
4. Beads ( if desired )
Getting Started On Your Homemade Tablecloth:
The dimensions of your table and the size of the tablecloth you would like to make will be the deciding factors on how many single stitches you will need to make to set the width of your tablecloth. Start by stitching a length of single stitches that seems close the size you want to go with. Walk your strand of single stitches over to your table and go from there. You can add as many stitches as you need to make it the length you want it to be. You can also very easily pull out any stitches you have made if your length of stitches gets a bit longer than you want the width of your tablecloth to be.
As soon as you have your row of single stitches at the length that you want your homemade tablecloth to be, you will be able to begin going back and adding double stitches to that row. Make as many rows of double stitches as you want of the current color you are using until you would like to add another color.
When you are ready to start a row of a new color, simply cut the yarn at the very edge of your tablecloth and tie on the new color of yarn you intend to use, making a very tight knot to attach the yarns. You can find some fabulous yarns and a great variety in style and color bye clicking here.
You will want to double stitch as many rows as are necessary to create a perfect square. I you counted your single stitch row you can use the stitch count along the side of the tablecloth. This method requires a good memory and leaves room for error on the side stitch count.
An easier way to go about making the tablecloth square is to simply check the sides every time you finish a row. You will not need to do this till you are obviously close the shape you are attempting to achieve. You may also want to attach edging to only two edges or you may want an edge on all sides. You will simply have to adjust the amount of rows you stitch to achieve the final look you are going for.
Finishing Your Homemade Crochet Tablecloth :
How you choose to finish off your tablecloth is completely up to you. You can add ribbon or an edging to each side by stitching or using glue to fix them on. You can also use yarn and some beads to add a unique edge to each side of your tablecloth or to only two sides if you prefer that style.
The most important part to remember when you crochet anything for your home is to use colors you really love and always find a way to make the homemade craft project unique and your own.
