A masquerade party is perfect for New Year’s Eve. It can be a lot of fun to dress up and wear masks–then reveal your face at the stroke of midnight. Almost as if you are starting afresh–a new year, a new you. But how does one decorate for a New Year’s masquerade party? Here are just a few ideas to get the party started.
New Year’s Masquerade Party Decorations: The Masks
Of course, you’re going to want to wear a mask to accompany your nice party costume. But why not buy or make a few extras for decorations? You can buy cheap masks at any party store, or you can make your own using materials around the house. Here are some instructions for making your own mask, like one in the Venetian style. You can even use homemade masks as party invitations to send your friends. Just be sure they know to wear masks to your party.
New Year’s Masquerade Party Decorations: The Food
Decorate the table with a bright tablecloth and colorful platters of food. Any bright colors will do: purple, yellow, green, red…Choose three to five colors and use them throughout your theme. Then prepare various appetizers, such as lil’ smokies, chili cheese dip with chips, and fondue with fruit, pretzels, and more. Don’t forget to make a bowl of brightly colored punch, any flavor. Place a bright flower arrangement–or a bouquet of roses–in the middle of the table.
New Year’s Masquerade Party Decorations: Beads and Feathers
Finish decorating the house with colorful beads and feathers. Use the color scheme you chose to help with purchasing your decorations. You should be able to find them at any party store, or even the local discount shop. Throw in some silver and gold for added drama. Place feathers in vases, beads in the doorway, and so on. For even more fun at your masquerade party, buy a pinata that is filled with confetti (or candy!) and have someone break it open at the stroke of midnight.
Make sure your guests know that when the clock strikes midnight, they have to reveal their faces (even if everyone has already guessed who they are). At the same time, confetti will fall from above. Once the cheering has died down, play Auld Lang Syne on the stereo (or the piano, if you know how) and encourage your friends to sing along.
Enjoy your party and have a happy new year!
