Facebook continues to change it’s Privacy Settings, so here’s a quick tip on how to edit the settings currently.
Let’s say you have certain “Friends” that you do not wish to access your personal information, such as phone number and/or address.
On the right side of the Facebook window, click on “Account Settings” and choose “Privacy Settings.”
On the Privacy Settings window, click on “Customize settings” below the grid.
Within the Customize window, you have quite a few choices.
Click on the drop-down arrow for the area in which you wish to restrict access. (If you want to restrict your address, click on the drop-down arrow for “Address” within the Contact Information portion of the screen.)
The options are as follows:
Everyone – This will allow friends to share your information, friends of friends will be able to see and share your information. It also allows anyone searching your name to see everything. This is the least restrictive, as everyone can see everything within the category.
Friends of Friends – The only restriction this option provides is that it will not allow people searching your name to see everything.
Friends Only – This option takes away the “share” button, which means friends will not be able to share your information to their friends within the specific category.
Customize – This option has the most restrictions. Within the “Customize” window, you may choose to specify who is able to see the current category of information or you may choose to exclude only certain friends from seeing this information.
Example: If you choose to allow “Friends” to see this information, but want to exclude “John Smith,” then choose “Friends” in the “Make this visible to” drop-down and type the “John Smith” in the “Hide this from” box.
Click on “Save Settings” to save your changes and close the window.
NOTE: There is no “Save” button within the Privacy Settings window. Once you make the changes within the drop-down arrows for each section, the data is saved.
HINT: Don’t forget – with the Internet and computers, people can take screenshots or print the information and share with others. These Facebook Privacy Settings only allow the restrictions online.
Keep your personal items private and edit Facebook Privacy Settings with these tips.
