During the winter season, you will find that kids are bound to come to house with colds if you run a day care. If you are around kids you are almost guaranteed that they will end up getting sick seem time during the Fall, and Winter season. Below are several tips, and suggestions on how you can help to keep your day care as germ free as possible.
Set a policy
It is very important that you take the time, and set a policy that pertains to sick children coming to your home. For example schools have a policy that clearly state that sick children should be kept at home, especially if they are coughing, or have a fever. You can set the same policy for your day care. If you do not have this policy already in your home, you can easily type up a new contract for each individual, and have them sign off on it. Be sure to date, and sign two copies. One copy for them, and another copy for you to keep in your files. If children stay home when they are sick you will have a smaller chance of their germs being spread in your home.
Keep plenty of disinfectant
The next thing that you want to do is keep plenty of disinfectant in your home day care. Some disinfectant spray works best and you can spray the room down before the kids arrive. After the kids leave for the day, you can spray down the room again and be sure to wash all of the sheets, and blankets. It may seem like a lot of washing and cleaning up but it will be well worth it in the long run. This also means that you should keep plenty of cleaning disinfectant on hand, the areas, like bathrooms, and kitchens need to be wiped down and cleaned. Bathrooms should be cleaned up at least several times a day, to keep the germs down to a minimum.
Naps are essential
There are many children who do not get enough sleep in their own homes. Some parents don’t believe in setting early bedtimes, or any bedtime. Unfortunately all the lack of sleep does is lower the immune system. A child with a weak immune system usually ends up getting sick very often. By giving them a long enough nap while they are in your care, you will be helping them to fight off those cold germs.
