For years I’ve struggled with self esteem problems. To this day it is still something that I struggle with, but I want to share with you what has helped me. It’s not easy, and don’t think that you’re going to gain confidence overnight. It’s a long battle and it’s very hard to deal with at times. Just keep your head up, stay strong, and don’t give up.
Dress the way you like
I’ve come to realize that when I am dressed comfortably in an outfit that I love and that I think flatters my body, I feel great about myself. You know you have that pair of jeans that makes your butt look great. Or that shirt that flatters your waist. Pick the parts of your body that you love the most and do what you can to flatter them. There’s nothing wrong with showing off a little, just don’t go too overboard ;).
Stop looking in the mirror!
It’s okay to look in the mirror when you’re getting ready to go out. But once you’re ready, stop! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been ready to go out and I feel great only to go into the bathroom before the meal arrives to look in the mirror and find something that I think doesn’t look right. I know that I will sometimes get ready and I feel hot, and I feel like I look gorgeous only to check myself in the mirror and find something I think is out of place. If you feel good about how you look when you leave try to avoid mirrors after that, if you feel like you look good and you’re giving off that confidence vibe, that’s all you need!
Don’t compare yourself
Don’t lie, you know you compare yourself to others, everyone does sometimes. It’s not fair to do this to yourself though. You’re not them and they aren’t you. Sure she might have a perfect smile, but does she have the same beautiful eyes as you? No. You aren’t someone else, you’re you and trust me, you have things about yourself that are beautiful that no one else has. It’s not fair to compare yourself to others.
This might be hard, but it’s important, You absolutely HAVE to focus on the things you like about yourself. You can’t tell me that there is nothing about yourself that you don’t like, even the smallest thing, find it and compliment it. It can be about your appearance or your personality. Do this everyday with something new. Write them down and remember them.
This isn’t something that everyone will need, but some might. If you truly feel that down about yourself, get help. If you can’t fix it or make it better by yourself then talk to a professional. There is nothing at all to be ashamed of, and if you get help you’re likely to live a happier life.
