It’s been said that playing video games doesn’t give the average body the exercise that it could typically get doing something more active such as playing basketball, for example. While playing video games does wonders for hand-eye coordination, it doesn’t provide an overall exercise regimen that does a body good. In this article I would like to explain something I discovered that would allow you to play video games while getting a small abdominal workout, and while it’s probably not going to generate a lot of exercise, it can help to get your abs going in the right direction.
The video game exercise I discovered is actually quite simple. I discovered it while playing “Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker.” I happened to get the player’s guide when I got the game and I had placed my chair in the living room in front of the TV, but when I did, I found that I had no place to put the player’s guide that would facilitate being able to read the walkthroughs. So I ended up placing it on the floor in front of the chair as I went about the slaying of monsters and the finding of heart pieces. Every time I went to look at the player’s guide I would have to look down in front of the chair in order to read the print. Well I must have done this about 40-50 times until I saved the game and turned it off. The next day, as I got out of bed, my abdominal muscles felt moderately sore. Eventually as the morning went on I realized that my reading of the player’s guide on the ground had allowed me to perform sit-ups and thus had caused my abdominal muscles to get more exercise. Every time I play a game now I place the player’s guide on the ground in front of the chair to get those exercise benefits.
Well there you have it. It’s not the most intense workout, but if you’re an avid gamer or even an occasional gamer, you too can get an abdominal workout while playing an entertaining video game. Unless of course you have a Wii controller that you swing around, in which case you have the potential to work your upper body muscles. (Just be sure to use the wrist straps so as not to accidentally throw your controller through the window or hit your friend next to you.) So feel free to take the opportunity to get a simple abdominal workout while playing your game by placing the player’s guide on the floor in front of the chair.
