When you are running an in home daycare it is important to remember that you are running your own business. When running your own business it is important to keep in mind that sometimes tough decisions have to be made. Keeping every thing on a business level is really very important. If a problem arises with a child and you find that you are no longer able to care for the child it may become necessary to have them removed from your daycare center. Below you will find several tactful was that you can have a child removed from your in home daycare without ruining your business reputation. Although you never want to have a child removed from your home, it sometimes is a must when you have children who refuse to cooperate or if their parents do not abide by the rules of the contract.
Make sure it is in writing
All in home day care centers should have some type of written contract. In the contract it should clearly state how much you are to be paid, as well as pick up and drop off time. One item that some day care centers fail to put into the contract is a clause that indicates you can cancel the contract at your discretion at any time. By putting this in the contract you will make it much easier to remove a child when a problem arises. It would also be nice to include a few sentences that clearly state you will provide written notice of why your child must leave the day care as well as at least two weeks notice. Giving the parents advance notice is the best way to ensure that they have another location for the child to care for. If you do not have a contract that includes this information, you should write one up immediately and have them sign it. If you do have a contract you can add the additional clause, have them read it and then add it to the contract.
At the first sign of a problem it is a good idea to let them know. Don’t wait until your patience has been worn down and you can not take anymore. Each time you give them a warning about possibly removing their child from their daycare is sure that it is in writing. You should keep a copy for yourself and then give them a copy. Have them sign both copies each time you give it to them. This may seem like a bit of a nuisance to do each time you give them a warning, but this will ensure that everything is done in a business like manner.
Try to give the parents other options
Instead of just giving someone the boot out of your daycare it would be a good idea to give them a list of other options that they can choose from. Of course this is something that you do not have to do but it would be nice to provide them with a list of options.
Remember that this may not be a very pleasant thing to do but in some cases it is necessary. Remember even if you have become close friends with the parents of those whom you are babysitting, you will want to keep it on a professional level.
