Have you ever planned a trip to Disneyland, knowing that the people you would be traveling with were totally grumpy about the whole idea? Some families are split down the middle when it comes to Disneyland; those who love Disneyland, and those who don’t. Visiting Disneyland with grumpy people doesn’t have to mean your entire trip will be ruined. With a little creativity, and a lot of patience, you can enjoy your Disneyland trip, and possibly even help the grumps in your party to enjoy it, too! If you will be visiting Disneyland soon, with grumpy people in tow, the following tips may be useful!
Encourage the grumps in your party to help plan your trip
Maybe your travel companions are grumpy about your Disneyland trip because they feel it is your trip. To counteract some of this negativity, try to get the other members of your party to help with planning the details of your visit. It might be helpful to pull up the Disneyland website on the computer, and then get out of the way so that another member of your party can check out photos and park information. Ask everyone’s opinions on where to eat, what rides to go on, and which shows might be enjoyed. If everyone feels like the Disneyland trip belongs to your entire group, some of the grumpiness might fade.
If your travel companions are stressed about work that must get done before the trip, offer to help
As the one in our family who does all of the work for our family’s Disneyland trips, including packing, cleaning, schedules, travel details, and in-park itineraries, I know what it feels like to be so worn out by the time it’s time to leave that fun seems a little bit unlikely. If there’s somebody in your group who has a lot of work to get done just to be able to go on vacation, try to find a way to help. If your husband has paperwork to bring home from the office, see if there’s any way you can help organize files, or type needed emails. If your children must take on a huge amount of schoolwork just to avoid falling behind during your Disneyland vacation, maybe you can help type something up, or print out needed materials off the Internet. If everyone in your group feels like they can safely walk away from their responsibilities for a few days, they are less likely to be grumpy while you’re at Disneyland.
Let everyone enjoy Disneyland in their own way
An easy way to avoid unnecessary grumpiness during your Disneyland vacation is to refrain from pressuring everyone to do things they don’t want to do. Consider asking anyone if they’d enjoy themselves more if your party split up during different parts of the day so that everyone may enjoy the activities that are fun to them. If your spouse only wants to visit the park at night, try to be flexible and patient about it. Head into the park yourself during the day while your spouse hangs out at the hotel pool and catch up with each other later in the day. If you want to shop, but everyone else wants to go on rides, happily suggest that your group split up for a couple of hours and then meet up later for a meal. It may be a little disappointing to you, but when all is said and done, you may find that splitting up the group here and there so that everyone can do what they enjoy most, may go a long way in saving your Disneyland vacation from disaster.
Visiting Disneyland with people who are grumpy about the trip may prove challenging on several levels. However, with a lot of patience and a willingness to be flexible, you might just find that your group has a fantastic time after all!
