When we love someone we tend to keep them in our lives forever. For most people that is wonderful, but for others it can be dangerous. If you have been holding onto someone just because they are familiar, it may be time for you to let go.
If you have changed it may be time to let go of them. If you have changed for the better, but they are still in the darkness, you may want to cut them out of your life. For instance, if you have quit smoking, quit drinking or quit doing drugs, but your loved one is still involved in these activities, you should consider cutting them out of your life to protect your own health and well being. It is impossible to hang out or be in a relationship with someone who is an addict if you are trying to clean yourself up.
If they have changed you may want to let them go. If someone you care about has turned to drugs, alcohol or some other type of destructive behavior, you may want to consider cutting them out of your life if you are unable to help. Many times people do not want help and they do not want to change which makes it even more difficult for those around them that love them.
If they steal, you should definitely cut them off. Stealing is not only a destructive behavior, but it is also illegal. If your friend or loved one begins to steal things, you cannot keep them in your life. Not only will they get themselves into trouble, but they may bring you into it as well. You could be legally and criminally responsible if you are with them when they steal or if you have stolen property in your vehicle or home.
If they lie, you may not be able to trust them again. If someone lies to the extent that it puts you or your family in danger, you may need to cut them out of your lives. Lying can cause trouble in your life in addition to hurt feelings. If someone is lying to you, there may be more significant things that they are doing that you don’t even know about.
It is always best to be tolerant when you can be and loving as much as possible, but when someone poses a threat to you or your family, you will need to have the strength to cut them out of your life.
