Learning how to make a bird feeder from a milk carton is very easy. In fact, this craft project is so simple, a child can do it with adult supervision. This is a great DIY idea because it’s inexpensive to make and fun to put together.
Follow the step by step instructions listed below to make a bird feeder from a milk carton. Be sure to gather together your supplies beforehand.
Materials needed to make a milk carton bird feeder:
– Clean, empty milk or juice carton
– Acrylic paints
– Paint brush
– Thread wire
– Bird seed
– Thick bamboo skewer

How to make a milk carton bird feeder:
STEP 1 – Roughen the outside of the carton with the sandpaper. Doing this will help the paint adhere to the surface better.
STEP 2 – Cut out a window area. You should leave at least 2″ – 3″ of the carton in tact underneath the window.
STEP 3 – Just under the window, insert a thick bamboo skewer to create a perch.
STEP 4 – Paint the carton one color (for example yellow) and allow it to dry.
STEP 5 – With different color paint, add decorative designs. Leaves, flowers, or just large dots look nice.
STEP 6 – Thread the wire through the spout on top of the carton. Twist ends together to secure.
STEP 7 – Spray completed milk carton bird feeder with an acrylic spray gloss to protect it from outside weather conditions. For best results, apply a minimum of two coats.
STEP 8 – Add bird seed and hang on a tree branch.
