When one of my children got hurt, they often only needed a little attention and sympathy to make their injury all better. Sometimes, they actually needed to hold some ice on a bump to keep it from swelling. That is where the Boo Boo Bunny had a very important job. You can slip an ice cube into the Boo Boo Bunny and the injured child has something cute to hold on their boo boo for a few minutes.
To make a Boo Boo Bunny, you will need a washcloth, a strong rubber band, a pom pom for his tail, a piece of ribbon and some eyes. The eyes can be little buttons, wiggly eyes or whatever you choose.
Lay the washcloth down flat with the wrong side facing up. You are then going to fold the washcloth in half, forming a triangle. We now need to make a long jelly roll out of the washcloth. Do that by starting at the shortest part of the triangle and rolling it towards the longest edge where you folded the washcloth in half.
Next you are going to fold the jelly roll in half and, with your thumb and index finger, hold the washcloth together several inches down from the pointed ends. While still holding it together, fold the open points (the ears) backwards. Look at photo 2 if you need help determining how to fold the washcloth bunny. Now place the rubber band around the area that you are holding and the part you just folded back. Photo 3 shows how it is folded and where the rubber band goes. You may adjust the bunnies’ ears to make sure they are the same length.
Tie the ribbon around the washcloth bunny to cover the rubber band and dress up your bunny. Add eyes and a tail to your washcloth bunny. The back of the bunny has a pocket where you folded it and pinched. You can place an ice cube in the pocket so your child can hold the ice on their Boo Boo.
These bunnies can also be used to hold a little gift like a piece of candy, a lip gloss or nail polish for some special little girl. One more use for the washcloth bunny would be to write your child a note and stick it in the little bunny.
The little eyes and pom poms are glued on so you do not want to give the Boo Boo Bunny to a very small child. These bunnies made from washcloths are quick and easy little gift items. In fact you could show an older child how to make them and let them fill them with a small gift item for their friends.
Washcloth bunnies can also be used as decorations at a baby shower with or without a little gift in them. Be careful! These washcloth bunnies are so cute and so easy that you may see them multiply.
