The holidays provide superlative moments to gather loved ones around and create some easy and inexpensive crafts.
What follows are instructions on how to make a “Candy Christmas Tree Forest.”
To create a “Candy Christmas Tree Forest” you will need to assemble together the following items;
• 2 yards holiday ribbon, 1 inch wide
• Ice cream sugar cones
• Wooden tooth picks
• Glue gun with glue sticks
• Aluminum foil in a holiday color
• 60 ounces foil wrapped holiday candy
• 1 Styrofoam cone, 12 inch x 4 inch in size
• Satin bow
• Floral wire
Candy Christmas Tree Forest Assembly Instructions
Begin by completely covering the Styrofoam cone with the colored aluminum foil. Next use either the glue gun or the tooth picks to affix the candies to the Styrofoam cone.
If you are using hard candies simply use the glue gun to attach them to the cone. If however you are using chocolate candies you may insert a wooden tooth pick into the flat side of the chocolate candy and then add a dab of glue around the insertion point. Then quickly use the other side of the tooth pick to insert the candy into the Styrofoam cone.
Repeat this procedure until the entire Styrofoam cone is covered. Use the floral wire and tooth picks to insert a satin bow on top of the candy tree.
Afterward, turn your attention to the ice cream sugar cones. Turn the cones upside down so that the wide circular opening of the cone is flush against the table.
Next affix the candies to the sugar cone using either the hot glue or confectioner’s glue.
To make confectioner’s glue you will need to assemble together the following items;
• 4 teaspoons egg whites
• ¼ cup warm water
• 3 cups powder sugar, shifted
Begin to make the confectioner’s glue by combining the warm water and the egg whites together.
Next add the powdered sugar to the mix and stir vigorously until the mixture is smooth and thick in texture.
Be sure to use the confectioner’s glue right away to fasten the candies to the sugar cones. The longer you wait, the less effective the confectioner’s glue will become.
Once all the candy trees have been assembled allow them to dry completely before arranging them in your desired fantasy forest pattern.
