Dry erase boards allow you to write a message then erase it to use again and again. This easy craft project uses a few things from around the house to create a fun and functional message board for any room. By inserting fabric behind the glass of a picture frame, you can create a one-of-a-kind dry erase board that is suitable for even the most stylish placement, like beside the front door to leave messages. Be sure to use a light-colored fabric so the black dry erase marker shows up against the light background.
To make a dry erase board, you’ll need the following:
– Picture frame with glass
– Paint and paintbrush, optional
Begin with a Picture Frame
Find a picture frame or buy an inexpensive one at a thrift store or flea market. Take the picture frame apart. Clean the frame and the glass.
Paint the Picture Frame, Optional
If the picture frame is in disrepair or you want to match it to your decor, paint it with wall paint or acrylic paint.
Find a fabric that matches your room’s decor where you’ll use the dry erase board. Use the cardboard at the back of the picture frame and wrap fabric around it so the front of the cardboard shows a lovely design. Tape the back of the cardboard to hold the fabric in place. Use a light-colored fabric so the message shows up when writing on the glass.
Reassemble the Frame
Put the glass back in the frame. Then insert the cardboard covered with fabric. Your special dry erase board is ready to use by writing directly on the picture frame’s glass. Keep a basket nearby with a dry erase marker and eraser.
