This is how to make the fun size candy bar topiary I had seen as a room decoration online. I didn’t see instructions for the topiary on the website because the picture was at the beginning of a candy quiz. I wrote these instructions from looking at the picture and figuring out how to make it.
Materials Needed for the Fun Size Candy Bar Topiary
Many of these items can be found at Wal-Mart. If you are having a problem finding the Terra cotta flower pot and Styrofoam topiary top, check at Michael’s, Hobby Lobby or other local craft stores.
1 – Mixed bag of fun size candy bars
1 – Bag of mixed small candies
1 – Styrofoam Topiary Top Use a topiary Styrofoam piece that will be size appropriate for the Terra cotta flower pot.
1 – Dowel Rod 1 inch in diameter by 2 feet long
1 – Terra Cotta Flower Pot (Size of Terra Cotta pot – 81/2×7 with a 1 inch drain hole)
1 can Quick drying spray paint any color
Small tube of caulking – preferably clear
TIP: A larger or smaller Terra cotta pot and Styrofoam pieces can be used. Adjust amounts of candies and Styrofoam pieces accordingly.
How to Make the Fun Size Candy Bar Topiary
Step 1: Test to see if the one inch dowel rod will fit into the drain hole of the flower pot. If not, sand down just enough of the dowel rod so it fits into the hole without falling over.
NOTE: When the Terra cotta pot is dry, make a thin line of caulking around the other end of the dowel rod and place into the whole at the bottom of the flower pot. This will be done after the next step.
Step 2: Spray paint the Terra cotta flower pot with the spray paint and let this dry for an afternoon.
Step 3: While waiting for the Terra cotta flower pot to dry, push the dowel rod into the topiary Styrofoam piece.
Step 4: Place the bottom end of the packaged fun size candy bar horizontally with the bottom edge of the foam piece leaving the sealed end hanging over the edge. Pin the other sealed seam end of the fun size candy bar to the Styrofoam topiary. Continue around the bottom row until complete.
Step 5: Start the next row on a staggered placement. Placing the first fun size candy bar on the seam between the first two candy bars, leaving one sealed seam hanging over the first row, and pinned in place. Continue this row in the same manner as the first row.
Step 6: The rest of the rows of candy bars were pinned in the same manner as row two. Continued this staggering effect until I had the Styrofoam topiary piece was covered with candy bars.
Step 7: Pour the bag of smaller candies inside the flower pot to cover the cardboard circle.
