The Fall season brings with it a lot of fun projects that you can do with your children. These projects include make things that resemble leaves, acorns, and other items that are unique to Fall. Below you will find instructions on how to make a leaf shaped pencil case. This pencil case does not require a lot of materials to make. There are really no measurements for this project listed below. I have found it best to just use your typical pencil as your guide to how long and wide your case should be. You will need a large piece of green felt (found at your local arts and supply store), marker, scissors, and green thread. Once you have gathered all of your materials you can just follow the simple instructions below to get started.
First draw a leaf shape onto your felt. I would recommend using a regular pencil as your guide to the size of your leaf. Remember that you are making a pencil case so you will want it to be large enough to fit the pencils. Once you have finished drawing the first leaf, cut it out. After cutting it out use it as a pattern for the second half of the leaf. Just lay it flat on the remaining felt and trace it. This will help to ensure that both sides of the pencil case are the same. Once you have both sides cut out you will want to take the thread and sew up the edges to your pencil case. This will take some time to do since you will want the stitching to be as close together as possible. It should be sewn very tight and their should be no gaps in between. This would be a great way to teach your child how to sew if they do not already know how to do so.
Once you have finished sewing your leaf shaped pencil case you have the option of leaving the case as is, or adding a top flap to it. You should have plenty of felt left over to make a top flap to your case. You can simply use a ruler to measure the correct size of the flap that you need and add it on. Remember that this is a fun project so don’t worry about getting it too exact. If your child want’s to add additional items such as a strap to the case then let them.
