Christmas is a fun time of year with the shopping, baking, wrapping of presents, taking children to see Santa and decorating the tree. Another fun thing to do during the holiday season is making your own Christmas decorations. One decoration that is fun to make and children will enjoy is a pine one filled with lollipops. Children can help make this easy craft.
Items Needed to Make a Lollipop Pine cone Decoration
-Small round lollipops
-Extra Large pine cone (the pine cone has to be large enough for the sticks of lollipops to fit in between the openings) (craft stores should have them)
-Hot glue gun (optional)
-Ribbon – one-fourth inch wide (color is your preference)
-Round or square decorative holiday box with lid to use as the base for the pine cone (the pine cone should set on the lid of the box, not in the box)
Assembling the Lollipop Pine cone Decoration
Use the small brush to remove any debris from the pine cone. Using the hot glue gun, glue the bottom of the pine cone to the lid of the holiday box and let dry. If not using a hot glue gun, let the pine cone and lid dry for several hours in order to acquire a strong bond.
From the ribbon, make a bow with several streamers, and glue it to the top of the pine cone and let dry. Arrange the streamers down the sides of the pine one.
Insert the stick end of the lollipops in between the pine cone openings. The lollipop round part should be on the outside. You can put a lot of lollipops in the pine cone or just a few. The remainder lollipops can be stored in the holiday box base.
Your pine cone lollipop decoration is now ready to display on a coffee or end table. You can also use it to give as a gift.
Variation #1: Glue the lollipops to the pine cone and only let the children have the lollipops from the Holiday box.
Variation #2: After gluing the lollipops on the pine cone, sprinkle a little glitter over the whole pine cone. I would only do this if the children were eating the lollipops from the holiday box.
Variation #3: Decorate the pine cone the same way in variation #2. Poke holes in the sides of the holiday box and insert the stick end of the lollipops through the wholes up to the lollipop candy part. Refill the holes as needed.
Variation #4: Decorate the same way as variation #3 above, only make a larger box with a grouping of smaller pine cones.
