What better way to enjoy the remaining weeks of the Halloween season than to create a Styrofoam spider that can serve as a decoration for your home? With this easy to follow directional guide to creating a Styrofoam spider, your house will look the part for Halloween parties or simply the season and you will have a fun time creating something that you can spook up to your liking.
To begin, you will need to gather the materials that are necessary for creating your Styrofoam spider. First, you will need a Styrofoam ball which can be purchased at any store that sells crafts. A black ball would work best, but if you cannot find one of that color, you can purchase a white one and simply paint it (painting a white Styrofoam ball purple would also serve as a good color for a Halloween spider). You will also need some goggle eyes of any size, shape and color of your choice. They can be angry eyes, happy eyes, whichever kind of eyes you find at a store (also a store that sells craft supplies) that you like. Hot glue or Elmer’s glue to glue the goggle eyes on and then fuzzy wire sticks that you will stick inside of the Styrofoam ball to serve as legs. The color’s can be black to match your spider, or an assortment of colors, it is all up to you.
Once you have gathered all of the materials required, you can then begin to fun part of assembling your spider. If you could not find a black Styrofoam ball and had to purchase a white one to paint, then be sure you give your Styrofoam ball enough time to dry before adding on the eyes and legs. After your Styrofoam ball has been painted (any color that you choose for your spider), you can begin by adding on the eyes. Spiders usually have more than two eyes, but if you want your spider to have only two, that is alright.
Next, you can add your legs. Take eight fuzzy wired sticks (four on each side of your spider) and stick them into your Styrofoam ball. You can then bend your wire sticks so that your spider legs look like your spider is crawling. These legs won’t be strong enough to hold up your Styrofoam ball, but they will however resemble legs of a spider so that it looks like it is crawling on a surface. You can also add other sorts of embellishments to your Styrofoam spider to give it more personality. Things such as eyebrows, or a mouth sparkles on your spiders body.
