Cocky, bold seed eating squirrels may not always choose to enter into a live trap baited with favorite delicacies of sunflower seed, peanuts, pecans or corn after its been set in place where the squirrels frequent. Considering the trap is covered with leaves and sticks except for the opening pushed under a bush perhaps to appear normal.
Capturing a squirrel could then become a sit and wait game done with the fast reflexes of the human body and the smart deceptive outwit & skill of the human brain. In this play of capturing the squirrel from the bird feeding area and relocating it elsewhere the moves are basic with minimum tools and somewhat physical.
Compare it to digging a deep hole covering it and luring the target animal into a chase or in chasing it the animal falls into the hole and can’t get out. The idea is much in the same as using a fish net to dip a fish out of the water to put in a bucket of like water which is typically salt, fresh or brackish. It’s also similar to the depiction of dog and cat catchers where a net is used to swoop up a cat or dog.
To catch a squirrel a person will have to sit and wait with a net in hand. Once the squirrel is spotted the person sneaks up as close as they can to the rodent then they swoop the net down catch it and quickly pour the squirrel into a bucket or a box with a lid that can be closed once the varmint is in. Small air holes should be poked in the lid.
The net can be dropped over the squirrel and held until a piece of cardboard can be slid underneath the net so the cardboard and net can be lifted together and walked to the bucket or box for the squirrel drop off. Watch your self when doing this, squirrels can scratch and bite.
Making a net can be done with a walking cane, wire, netting, string and scissors. Bend and form the wire into a circle. Take the end of the walking cane and twist the ends of the wire around the cane. Now cup the netting around the circle and weave the string in and out of the holes all the way around then knot the string ends and pull tightly to secure. A fish net can be used instead. If you were thinking about using a butterfly net it probably wouldn’t be strong enough to hold a squirrel.
