Do you have a fabulous, foodie friend that deserves the kind of pleasure only a homemade gourmet gift can provide? Perhaps you are tired of the same old gift gourmet baskets yourself? Why not make a unique, “food-abulous” related gift basket all your own?
A new baking dish, a kitchen towel, some spices and corresponding homemade spice soap are all you need to make a personalized, gift basket with a “wow” factor that is sure to please.
Place the dish towel inside the new baking dish along with the spice jars and set it aside. It is now time to make “Chef’s Delight” soap; a fragrant trio that smells so good you’ll be tempted to eat it.
What follows are instructions for making the three kinds of soaps needed to create “Chef’s Delight”; ginger, cloves and cinnamon.
The ingredients that you will need can be easily obtained from two different types of stores; grocery stores and craft stores.
• 2 tsp. powdered ginger
• Sassafras fragrance
• Yellow dye
• 1 tsp ground cloves
• Clove oil
• 2 tsp. ground cinnamon
• Cinnamon fragrance
• Soap mold
• Spray vegetable oil
• Glycerin soap (clear and unscented)
• Microwave safe measuring cup
• Chopping block and sharp knife
Spice Soap Making Instructions
Begin by taking hold of the knife and cutting the glycerin into manageable cubes. Be sure to use the cutting board so that you do not accidently cut into your kitchen counter.
After the glycerin has been cubed place you will need to melt it in the microwave. This is where the microwave safe measuring cup comes in. It is the perfect size for the melted glycerin and the built in pour spout makes it easy to dispense the melted glycerin into the soap molds.
It is best to make one variety of spiced soap at a time. For the cinnamon soap you will need to add the ground cinnamon and cinnamon fragrance to the melted glycerin.
Stir until the ingredients are well combine and then pour the entire mixture into a soap mold that has been sprayed with vegetable oil.
Once the cinnamon soap is in the mold allow it to cool and harden before attempting to remove it from the mold.
Proceed with making the clove soap. For that you will need to add the ground cloves and the clove oil to the melted glycerin. Again, mix the ingredients together well and pour it into a vegetable sprayed soap mold. Let it cool and harden before continuing.
Finally for the ginger soap you will need to add the powdered ginger, sassafras fragrance and yellow dye into the melted glycerin. Combine the ingredients and then pour the concoction into the prepared soap mold.
After the ginger soap hardens it, along with the other completed spice bars, can be wrapped in clear saran wrap and added into your make-shift gift basket.
Once all of your items are in the make-shift gift basket, wrap it with colored cellophane and add other decorative elements as desired.
