Hair gel is a must for my natural hair and I just love making my own hair gel from flax seeds. Not only is making my own hair gel inexpensive, it’s super easy to make, all natural and is good for my hair. Most hair gels on store shelves contain alcohol as a major ingredient, which can be very drying to African American hair. I don’t know about you but I don’t need anything drying out my hair anymore than what it is.
If having healthy moisturized hair is important to you then you should not use hair gel that contains alcohol as an ingredient. One alternative is to look for hair gel that doesn’t contain alcohol like Echo Styler Styling Gel. Another option is to make your own hair gel from flax seeds. Flax seeds are a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids that will nourish and moisturize your hair, which will promote healthy hair growth without leaving your hair crunchy and hard. Don’t worry, making flax seed hair gel is super simple, just follow my instructions and you’ll have your own special made flax seed hair gel.
All you need are flax seeds, water, essential oils, a knee hi stocking, tongs and two containers. You can pick flax seeds up for three to five dollars and knee hi’s for about a dollar at the grocery store. Essential oils can be purchased at your local health food store at different prices.
Flax Seed Hair Gel Recipe
¼ cup flax seeds
2 cups water
Essential oils (rosemary oil, lavender oil , vitamin e oil and etc)
Boil flax seeds for about 5 to 7 minutes and stir continuously until the mixture thickens. Remove the pot from the stove. Place the knee hi stocking over the container. The knee hi stocking will act as your strainer. Pour the mixture into the container as the stocking catches the flax seeds. Take the stocking off the container and use the tongs to squeeze the remainder of the gel from the seeds. Once all the gel is squeezed from the seeds, you can empty the seeds into a container. Refrigerate the seeds and you can boil them again to make more gel. Add drops of the oils that you’ve chosen to give the hair gel a nice smell. Refrigerate the hair gel and it will last for around three weeks.
You can use the flax seed gel to do your twists, twist and braid outs and wash and go hair styles.
I hope you enjoy the flax seed gel as much as I do. Please let me know just how much.
