First and foremost, the only ingredients you would really need is some peanuts and oil. Use around two tablespoons filled with oil for each cup filled with peanuts. If you want, half a teaspoon filled with salt can also be added. Do keep in mind that peanuts already have oil in them, so if you have plans of using especially oily peanuts, such as Spanish ones, you will not need to use up as much oil as with others.
To actually make the homemade peanut butter, you simply have to place your oil and peanuts into a blender and mix them together. If you prefer chunky peanut butter, get rid of a quarter of your peanuts prior to blending them. Then, once the mixture is blended, add those nuts and puree it several more times to break them up before finishing up the blending.
Now, this is where the creativity comes in. The recipe above sounds very boring, but if you are actually making an effort of doing things from home, you can make things more special. Use macadamia nuts for your chunks, for example, or add honey instead of oil. If you want, you can even add sunflower seeds or pecans, or butterscotch chips or chocolate chips. Remember: learning how to make homemade peanut butter never has to be boring, so have as much fun as you want.
