Let me guess. You have your eyes set on that rune scimitar, or some dragon gauntlets, or maybe even full Saradomin armor, but you don’t know how to make enough money to buy the gear of your dreams. Well here are five simple methods for making money that’ll help your tidy sum of GP grow into a huge pile of gold.
Method 1: Collecting cowhides. This is a popular money-making method for Runescape free players everywhere. Almost everyone at one time or another has done this, and it can help you quickly amass a small fortune. All you need is some armor and a weapon, and maybe some food if you have a really low combat level. Try to keep your inventory as free as possible. Start out in Lumbridge, and then head east across the river. Head north up the road until you find a field full of cows. Kill cows and pick up the cowhide until your inventory is full, then go back to the Lumbridge bank and repeat. Once you have as many cowhides as you want, head to the Grand Exchange and sell them.
Method 2: Collecting feathers. Another classic method for making money, collecting feathers, also involves some low level farm animals. Start out in Lumbridge, then head east across the river. Head north along the same road but walk a little ways past the cow field until you come to the chicken farm. Kill the chickens and collect the feathers. These feathers aren’t worth much on their own but chickens drop them in abundance and in large numbers they are worth quite a lot of money. Kill chickens until you have all the feathers you want (preferably several thousand or more, it depends on how much money you want. The more feathers the better). And then go sell the feathers on the Grand Exchange.
Method 3: Mining rune essence. This is an easy, albeit monotonous (but less so than the next method), way to make money. To do this you have to have completed the Rune Mysteries quest and you need a decent pickaxe. Equip your pickaxe and then go to the Varrock east bank. Bank all your other items and head south down to the dirt path until you come to Aubury’s rune shop. Have him teleport you to the rune essence mine. Mine essence until your inventory is full, then go back to the bank and deposit your inventory. Do this until you have as much essence as you want, then go to the Grand Exchange and sell it all.
Method 4: Smithing Steel Bars. This is probably the most consistently profitable method present in this guide, however you have to be careful sometimes otherwise you can lose a little bit of money. Also, you have to be patient and have a decent smithing level. If you decide you want to do this and you have the required smithing level, check the Grand Exchange and make sure that the price of a steel bar is higher than the combined price of one iron ore and two coal ores. Once you’re ready, get a decent amount of money and buy enough materials to smith a large number of steel bars (2 coal, 1 iron each). Buy the ores at medium price or lower if you can, this saves money. Once you have your materials, head to Falador. Make sure your inventory is empty, and then withdraw 18 coal and 9 iron. Go to the furnace and smith the bars, then bank them. Repeat until you’ve made all of your steel bars, then go to the Grand Exchange and try to sell them at high price to maximize profit. This is also great smithing experience.
Method 5: Killing cockroach soldiers (lv 83). This is possible the hardest of the methods listed here. To do this you need your gear, some good food (lobsters are good) , and – for maximum profit – runes for the high alchemy spell. Make sure to leave some inventory space open for your loot too. To get to their location you must go to the Stronghold of Player Safety south of Edgeville. Head down into the jail via cellar door and then go into the cell with the poster on the wall. Click on the poster and you will be lead to a dungeon. Head southeast and go down some stairs, and then go east until you see the really big cockroaches. These have great loot. They drop gold and a variety of valuable runes and ores. They also rarely drop rune equipment, such as square shields and scimitars. I won’t go into the details on what you should alchemize, but i will give you a tip. Look at the market prices of mithril and rune items, and if they are lower than their high alchemy level turn them into gold. Also, it’s your call whether or not to keep the ores or alchemize them.
No matter which of these you choose, should you choose to be a bit patient, you should be able to make a good amount of gold. Good luck earning the gear or your dreams, and have fun being the envy of your F2P friends!
