You start up your computer and you log in only to find that it is slow and unresponsive and just doesn’t seem to start up quite like it used to. You take good care of it and it’s not that old and you buy all the good part for it, but it just doesn’t seem to want to start up or run at all like when you bought it. While this can be frustrating at times, there are a few things you can do to speed up your PC and breathe new life into your system.
So, what is it that can speed up your computer and make it run like new? Well, one of the things that you can do to speed up your computer and make it run like new is run a disk defrag. A lot of people forget the disk defrag and they think that it only needs to be run every month or so. This isn’t true, because that all depends on how often you use your machine and what you use it for. If you use it just to browse the web and not much else, then this is indeed the case, but if you do a multitude of things from gaming to graphics editing like myself, every week is a safe bet to keep your machine running at high performance. You can find the disk defragment tool in your system tools and the more often you run it the less time it will take to defragment your hard drive.
The next thing you can do to help speed up your pc is set certain programs to not run at startup. Too often people have way too many programs run at startup and this causes there machine to take a long time to load and as a result it slows down their whole machine considerably. If you don’t need the programs at startup, then don’t run them, all running them does is cause the computer to slow down and sometimes freeze even if you have better hardware. There is no point in having things run and take up the speed of your machine if all they are there for is to run with no operation. You can also prevent similar situations from happening by eliminating any process on your machine that isn’t being used at the moment after startup by entering your task manager. If you don’t have an idea what a task is, you can google it and find the answer within seconds.
The third thing that you can do to help speed up your pc is use programs such as spybot search and destroy to clean out any unwanted programs and spyware. The spyware on a machine can cause a ton of problems for a user and can slow down their computer considerably. Spyware can be created just from browsing the web and can come to your computer at anytime as long as you are connected to the internet. Your antivirus should do a good job of finding and neutralizing such problems, but it’s always good to have a specific program for the job so that you don’t have to worry about any missed files.
The last and final thing that you can do to help speed up your machine is reformat or invest in new hardware. Your hardware may be old on your machine and your newer programs may take more power and processing to run. As a result you need to upgrade your machine accordingly and make sure that you get only the types of parts that are needed to do the job you want your pc to do. If you do have the proper hardware and your computer is still slow, then it may be time to reformat. Reformatting your machine is something you should do every year or so, because windows can become corrupt overtime and have slowdowns in the system due to just everyday use. The important thing to remember is to back up all important files and be sure that you have a operating disk for install. Reformatting and reinstalling your operating system will also allow you to get rid of files you never even used or remembered along with other programs and allow you to have much more space then you had originally. Doing all of these steps should drastically improve the life and reliability of your computer and as always you should keep your computer free and clear of dirt and dust to keep it running healthy.
