Nature was around long before modern technology. Natural drinks, food and aromatics have long been made by traditional methods using ingredients of nature by those who follow a spiritual lifestyle.
Incense is one example and in the past and even in today’s times has been used in homes for aromatherapy purposes during moments of meditation to enhance solitude and peace. Learning how to make your own incense sticks is a tradition that is still used in recent years. Throughout the 20th century people would make incense sticks that had unique scents by mixing and combining a combination of natural ingredients which when burnt would create a pleasant aroma.
If you want to learn how to make your own incense sticks at home you will need binder, solid aromatic, a knife, bamboo stalk, wax paper, a mortal and pestle, water and a paper bag.
The first step to discovering how to make your own incense sticks is to place spice, large pieces or plant material in a mortar and proceed to crush it until it is in tiny particles. All these pieces should be dry and free of any moisture so they create a high quality aromatic base. Once this is complete remove it from the mortar and store in a separate container.
The next step is to put around 10% of aromatic weight of binder into the mortar being careful not to put more than this in otherwise it will be too overpowering.
After this place the crushed aromatics you have in another container back into the mortar and combine the contents. You should do this until the contents have thickened are moist and are thoroughly combined. It is at this point you can remove the mixture and place onto a wax sheet.
Put this to one side and take another sheet of wax paper and lay a bamboo stick onto it. Take some of the aromatic mixture and spread in over the stick in a line. Afterward fold the paper over the stick that you have lined with mixture leaving the stick at the bottom and roll the paper leaving the stick inside.
Once the stick has taken shape roll it onto a paper bag and leave it for around 30 minutes to dry. You can then repeat the process to make more. Once 30 minutes has past, take the stick from the wax paper and put in a holder it can dry on all sides.
