Everyone has gotten the feeling of intensely wanting to eat something when you told youself that you wouldn’t. Cravings can be overwhelming and hard to overcome. Here are some ways to not give in to those cravings…
Your body needs water, and you should be drinking at least 64 oz of water a day. Water will go to your stomach and fill it up, which will give you a temporary feeling of being full.
Chewing ice cubes is just like drinking water, but it gives your body the sensation of actually eating something. This will allow you to feel like you’re eating and fill your stomach up.
Keep yourself busy
If you keep yourself busy, your mind will be thinking about other things. You won’t have time to have the reoccurring thoughts of food. Do something that you can’t eat during, such as taking a shower, going outside, or going for a walk.
Eat 5-6 small meals a day
If you eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones you will be consistently giving your body food, so you won’t be feeling as hungry in between. Of course, you should be eating healthier meals during this time. Sometimes your cravings for food are your body wanting nutrients because it isn’t getting enough of something that it needs. You get the urge to eat because if you eat your chances of your body getting the nutrients that it needs is very likely.
Stay Away From The Kitchen And Food Channel
Even thinking or smelling food will begin digestion. Once you start thinking about it, your stomach starts to secrete digestive juices. If you are watching the food channel or thinking about the food in your kitchen, you are going to feel hungry. Try keeping yourself in a room that isn’t near the kitchen and watching a different channel on TV.
Don’t Buy It
The best way for people to avoid having cravings for junk food is to not even buy it when they are at the store. If the food isn’t in your house and your hungry, you are going to be forced to eat something healthier. Most people won’t want to drive to the store to get junk food when they are hungry at this very instant.
Eat A Healthy Snack
Eating something small that’s healthy won’t necessarily get rid of your cravings, but it will stop you from being so hungry. If you crave sweet things, buy fruits when you are the store, such as strawberries and blueberries. If you crave salty things, get some cucumbers, slice them up, and put some salt on them.
Take a vitamin
As I stated above, sometimes your body has cravings because it needs a nutrient. Taking a vitamin gives your body a lot of the nutrients it needs. But, a vitamin doesn’t usually give you the whole amount of nutrients that you should be getting in a day because you should also be getting them in your food. So, if you take a vitamin and eat healthy, your body should be getting the proper amounts of nutrients and shouldn’t be craving food as much.
Brush Your Teeth
Brushing your teeth will put a clean taste in your mouth, and usually when you go to eat something after brushing your teeth it will taste bad. If you get a craving for some junk food, just go to the bathroom and brush your teeth. Remind yourself that if you eat the food that you crave right now, it won’t even taste good and it’ll be a waste.
