Bathrooms, especially the tub and shower area, can get crazy with shampoos, conditioners, body washes and all kinds of toiletries. Especially if there is more than one female in the house sharing a bathroom, your space can be limited. Taking a shower can become aggravating when toiletries take over. Here are some tips for organizing the space in your bathroom and being able to keep it clean and functional.
1- The first step is to take all the toiletries out of the shower/tub area and go through them. Sometimes people have a bad habit of leaving a shampoo bottle with a drop of shampoo in it and yet will start using a new bottle. Cut down the amount of shampoos and conditioners that you have in the tub area. The same goes for body washes.
2- Use a shower organizer. There are so many different kinds. You can have a rack that the bottles can be stacked on which also has room to hang body brushes and sponges or you can have smaller shelves that suction onto the walls. Think about your household and their needs before you head to the store.
3- Go through your medicine cabinet and determine how the space can best suit your needs. Many people do not use this cabinet for medicines but it can work well for grooming implements like tweezers, nail clippers or razors.
4- Use any other shelving or storage in your bathroom for keeping items that are not used as often or not used by everyone in the household. Grabbing facial cleanser from a basket and putting it back instead of adding it to all the bottles in the shower/tub area makes more sense. When a few people share a bathroom, everyone needs to learn how to put things away.
5- Keep a bottle of shower cleaner under your sink to spray after showers to help cut back on cleaning. Even if you are the only person who uses it, it will help to cut back on soap and mildew build-up.
6- When you line your wastebasket, put an extra under the bag in the wastebasket. This will make it easier to always have a new liner ready when you remove the full one.
7- If you have enough space or storage in your bathroom, assign each person a basket for their extra items. Leave it up to them to keep it organized and replace items as needed.
Whether you have a large, modern bathroom or a smaller, older bathroom it can be organized and clutter-free. Getting everyone to cooperate may take time but it can be done.
