To avoid your closet from getting cluttered stow away clothing that is not appropriate for the season. For example, around May I organize all of my long sleeved shirts in a plastic box in order to make space for new summer clothing. I may leave out 2-3 long sleeve shirts just in case there is a chilly night and that way I don’t have to dig into the plastic box and then iron and press the shirts. Any heavy jackets or sweaters I organize on hangers and wrap them in plastic bags and I store them in another closet. Around winter do the same to summer clothes. Leave out only a small amount of summer garments but put away all shorts, spaghetti straps, etc.
How to Organize Your Closet: Shelf Those Shoes
Investing in some shoe shelves is a great way to organize your closet. Not only does it make your closet look neat and cleanly but it also avoids shoes from getting damaged, warped, or ruined. In high school I used to be very messy and just kept all of my shoes in a big dog pile in the closet. Later I found that some of them were so badly misshapen or dirtied by the other shoes that I had to throw them away. Shelves can be found at Walmart or Target that can be placed on the floor of your closer. The shelves are also stackable which is quite handy if you are a shoe fashionista like myself.
How to Organize Your Closet: Sort Your Shirts
Having shirts and blouses sorted in your closet saves a lot of time in the morning when getting ready. Organize your shirts by type in color. For example, organize all of the spaghetti strap shirts and place them in front of sleeveless shirts such as tank tops. Then organize your short sleeves to follow, then the three quarter sleeved shirts, then lastly the long sleeved shirts. Keep colors in the same family. Warm tones can go together and then colder tones as well. Also keep like colors together.
How to Organize Your Closet: Fold Jeans and Shorts
I worked at Gap for three years and because of it I like to fold my jeans and shorts just as they do on the denim wall of the Gap shelves. I can see the colors and it saves a lot of space in my closet. I also prefer to fold them and organize them on a shelf as opposed to hanging them because they weigh down the wooden beam of the closet.
