There is not a dress code at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. But, you will definitely want to dress for comfort. So, whether you are traveling in summer or winter, there are items you will want to bring with you any time you visit, and there are those that can be left at home.
Bathing suits are a must any time of year, because Disney pools are heated in winter. Cover ups for girls are a good idea too. They come in handy if you need to run into your hotel to pick up a snack, or if you left something in your room. A tee shirt works well for boys. Disney Resorts offer towels for their guests poolside.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to bring at least 2 pairs of comfortable shoes. Bring pairs that you have already walked in and that feel good to you. The number one complaint of visitors, is blisters, simply because they wore the wrong shoes.
Have a rain poncho on hand. Although they are supplied throughout Disney, they will cost you around $10. Garbage bags work just as well. Cut out a hole at the top for your head, and holes at the sides for your arms. You then have an instant rain slicker for pennies. If it turns out you didn’t need them, use them to put your dirty laundry in for the trip home.
Pack sunscreen, and lots of it. I have been to Florida in January, and it has been 85 degrees. The sun is hot! The last thing you want to do is burn. That will surely put a damper on your vacation. Bring sunglasses and hats. They too provide excellent protection from the sun. It is also smart to pack bug spray, or bug bands. The mosquitos can get pretty bad at night, especially in summer.
Always have a sweatshirt or lightweight sweater packed, and at least one pair of jeans. It gets cold in some of the air conditioned buildings in summer. Winter nights can get quite chilly too.
Leave basic toiletries at home, like shampoo, conditioner, and soap. Your Disney Resort supplies them for you, and will replenish them daily. Blow dryers are provided as well.
Do not pack fancy clothes, unless you are dining at Victoria and Alberts Restaurant in the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. There, jackets are required for men, and business casual attire for women.
Bring any clothing deemed necessary for sporting events you may be taking part in.
Finally, bring an extra suitcase. It will come in handy for all those suvenirs you plan on bringing home.
