Some cell phones and smart phones have built in Bluetooth technology. This technology allows the phone to wirelessly “pair” with other electronic devices that have Bluetooth technology. Dongles in the case of cell phone dongles are small headsets that can pair through Bluetooth to a cell phone. When connected you can use the phone “hands-free” to make and receive calls.
Turn on the cell phone. On the main screen, navigate to the “Settings” menu. Depending on the phone this menu may be either located on the home screen or accessible by pressing the main “menu” key and then selecting “Settings” from the list.
Locate the “Bluetooth” entry under “Settings.” On some phones you may need to go to the “Wireless settings” entry followed by “Bluetooth.”
Select the option to “Enable Bluetooth,” “Set to Discoverable,” or “Turn on Bluetooth. Wait a few seconds for the Bluetooth status to switch to “On” or “Enabled.” Some devices may have a blue light that blinks when the Bluetooth is enabled.
Press and briefly hold the “power” button on the headset dongle until the status light on the dongle begins blinking.
Go back to the phone settings and under the “Bluetooth” entry scroll down to the “Devices” or “Browse Devices” heading. Locate the “headset dongle” which may be labeled as the brand name of your particular dongle. Select the device and choose “Pair with Device” or “Connect to Device” when prompted.
Select the option to “Remember this device” or “always allow this device to pair” if prompted when making the connection. This will allow you to skip the “pairing” process in the future; you’ll only need to enable Bluetooth on the phone and the dongle will pair automatically after the first pairing.
Some cell phones only leave the Bluetooth “discoverable” for one or two minutes; you need to “pair” the dongle with the phone during this time frame. If you fail to do so you will need to go back into “Bluetooth Settings” and reenable the phone’s Bluetooth.
Hold the power button on the dongle when not in use to conserve the dongle’s battery life. In addition disable the cell phone’s Bluetooth when not in use to conserve the phone’s battery.
