There is no secret. If you can tell the difference and distance between 12 notes (sharps/flats included), you can play the guitar.
It is important to develop your ears and go by what you hear as opposed to what you know. You have too see with your ears. Playing the guitar is 90% feeling and 10% theory. Everyone, already has a song in their head and already knows the rhythm and rhyme. Music is universal! Translating, your thoughts into sound takes practice, but you can accomplish this faster by not getting bogged down in theory.
Learn to play outside of the box. Creativity is what stands out. Through in some chromaticism and don’t be afraid to experiment. There is no end to playing the guitar and no limits (time included!) to learning something new. It’s just that simple.
