Sinusitis is a painful inflammation of the membranes lining the sinus cavities in the skull. It occurs most often after a cold or in people who suffer from allergies involving the nasal passage. Acute sinusitis is usually the result of a viral, bacterial or fungal infection. Chronic sinusitis is caused by allergic reactions and dental infections. Regardless of the cause, the sinus lining swells and blocks the passages result in a stuffed up feeling, swelling and headache. Pain tends to worsen when a person bends. There maybe a yellow/green nasal discharge. These are the steps of preventing sinusitis
1.Drink lots of fluids. Fluids can help dilute secretions and promote drainage.
2.Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables for vitamin C. Eat foods rich in vitamin E too because it has anti-inflammatory benefits. Eat foods rich in zinc because it boosts the immune system and may have anti-inflammatory benefits too.
3.Quit smoking. Smoking causes nasal and sinus inflammation. Heat and dry air can produce swollen, dry nasal membranes that are predisposed to sinusitis. Use a humidifier. Some foods are natural decongestants. These include garlic, onions, chillies, herbs, spices, ginger, thyme, cloves and cinnamon
