When a person is in a relationship for a long period of time, he or she tends to become very comfortable. At some point, many will toss their little black dresses for sweatpants to lounge around the house for a movie night with their loved one. Since there is not a need to look for new partners, they often stop trying to impress the person that they are with. Unfortunately, this can lead to weight gain over time – especially for women. Here are some tips on how to prevent weight gain caused by the comfort of being in a long relationship.
Avoid Eating Out or Ordering in Frequently
Many women, and some men, gain weight while they are in a long relationship because they eat out or order in too frequently. There are only so many hamburgers and fries, pizza and Chinese that a person can eat before they begin to gain weight. If you’re planning to eat with your sweetie, why not try cooking at home? There are many healthy meals that you can prepare together which will help prevent you from gaining weight.
Follow a Regular Exercise Routine
Another one of the reasons some people gain weight while they are in a relationship is because they do not find the time to work out. Balancing school, work and a relationship can be rough enough – let alone factoring an exercise routine into your schedule. Finding at least 30 minutes a day three to five times a week to exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight.
Remember to Care About Your Appearance
While it is only normal to stop trying too hard to impress someone once you have been together for a long time, it is important to avoid not caring. Remember that if you let yourself stop caring too much and gain weight, you may be causing yourself to experience health problems and could also cause your partner to lose interest in you. If they believe that you do not care enough to take care of yourself and at least try to impress them every once in awhile, they might not think that the relationship is worth it.
Keep Stress at a Minimum
Any time there are problems in your relationship, it is important to work them out. Many people, particularly women, are prone to overeating when they are under stress. While it can be hard to breakup, sometimes it is for the better. If you are constantly fighting, this may be the cause of any weight that you have put on.
Any time you in a relationship, whether it is long or short, the best thing that you can do is always put your health first. It can take a very short time to put on weight and a very long time to work it off. While you may not think that your partner cares how you look, minimizing the amount of fast food that you eat and following a regular exercise routine can help both you and the relationship in the long run.
