For some the winter months happen to be a very busy time of year. Add homeschooling to that and it can seem almost impossible to get everything done, as often as you would like. One of the first things you need to do is step back, and take a look at your homeschooling routine. Make a list of exactly what needs to get done during the winter months. I have found that a list really works best for this. Once you have your list of school items to be completed for each child you can move on to some of the suggestions which are listed below.
Games and workbooks
If the bulk of your children’s school work is done online, why not give them a break, and switch it up a bit. There are plenty of educational games online that will still help your children to learn. If you use workbooks for your children, you can focus on just giving them one page a day to do. I have found it works best to give them activities that are age appropriate. This way they will have no problem completing the work all by themselves. If it is a game that you would like them to play with you, that will work fine as well. If the kids are old enough perhaps you can give them a game that they would enjoy playing themselves.
Winterizing can be educational
What many don’t realize is that the simple everyday things you do around the house can easily be turned into a lesson for your children. Are you one of those people who like to change the look, and feel of your home to match the seasons? If you are doing projects around the house why not help your children to learn in the process. The simple things you do like winterizing the windows, and even crating a stockpile, can all be of benefit for your children. Not only will they enjoy this type of learning, but you will be able to get multiple things done. At the end of each day you can have your child write up a simple report on what they do during the day. For younger kids you can help them write a few sentences about what they really enjoyed during the day.
Let your child guide you
Child led learning can really be a lot of fun. You can allow your child to pick several projects that they would like to do during the day. It can be a video that they would like to watch, or it can be a game that they would like to play. There are tons of educational things you can do with your children that do no have to be so formal.
