Twitter has become a social media-networking superstar with over 200 million users worldwide. People use Twitter for all sorts of reasons-personal and professional, but there seems to be a common agreeance among Twitter followers: Be cool or I will unfollow you. Here are some ways to irritate your fellow follower and be unfollowed!
Ensure that you let your own unique personality shine through when using Twitter. Be interesting and engage in meaningful conversations with your followers. Be yourself! Give your followers new conversation, and do not be a retweet robot!
If you want to maintain your followers on Twitter, you must reciprocate. Listen to their posts, offer support, and give feedback. If you make Twitter all about you, you will be left with you.
We all love a good link, but if the only thing you are posting on Twitter is links- chances are you will lose some followers. Make sure you are providing your followers with some interesting chat to go with your favorite links.
We also love a good quote especially those inspirational ones, but do not tweet quotes all day. Have a reason to exist on Twitter!
You are Angry
No one wants to spend their precious free time listening to bickering, arguing, or negative tweets. Keep your irritations to yourself. Twitter should be used to positively engage people, not suck their energy!
Remember people are more interested in themselves, not you. If you want to use Twitter effectively, and keep your followers happy-keep your self-centered comments to a minimum. Go ahead and tell us what you did over the weekend, but resist the urge to give hourly updates.
This one is a must! Do not post offensive tweets. If what you have to say would offend someone face to face, it will offend in the Twitter arena. No one wants to hear your sexual preference jokes, or racist comments. This goes for political view too!
This kind of goes hand and hand with offensive, if you make people uncomfortable they will stop following you. Be professional, honest, and kind. Your followers will reward you with the same treatment in return.
We have all seen the flood tweeter. Their Avatar floods the screen because of their rapid- fire tweets. This may seem like a good way to get noticed, but it is a sure way to be unfollowed.
If you are tweeting over 25 a day, you are pushing the limit. People will soon get tired of your over-tweeting and click the unfollow button. More is not better.
Simply put, if you are obsessed with your iPhone and/or iPad, and only want to rant and rave about it, you will lose friends. Resist the urge to complain about the antennae, or rave about the front camera.
Don’t do it! We all know what spam is, and nobody will respond to it. If you are using Twitter for your business, you will gain and maintain more followers by being a real person. No auto spam please!
Twitter can be a rewarding experience both personally and professionally, but a few simple rules need to be followed, or you will be unfollowed!
