Tooting in your sleep may be upsetting to your partner. Besides taking “Beano” or other anti-gas pills there are a few things to try that could halt or deter the noise and gases.
Any snoring but perhaps more so it’s the loud snoring where you wake yourself up, not necessarily sleep apnea, is a possible gas maker. Gurgling snores also may have a tendency to produce gas. The gurgling could be a sign of gassy. In snoring there may be an inhalation of extra air since the mouth is usually open compared to the nose alone. The extra air may help to formulate gas. An example of air causing noise and maybe some gas is hiccups. Too much air in the lungs can turn on the hiccups as a way to get rid of some of the air. The lungs expel the air in the hiccups. This is why breathing into a paper bag is said to work because oxygen in the bag is limited. The lungs will be able to reduce its intake of air and get rid of any excess. Once the lungs have gotten rid of the extra air the hiccups will stop.
Taking steps to silence snoring may help to eliminate gas by allowing one to return to normal breathing.
A humidifier could possibly help to reduce snoring by helping to open the breathing airways.
In some people coffee causes gas. If coffee gases you up avoid drinking coffee close to bedtime.
Tea & crackers with their soothing affect on an upset stomach may decrease gas. Tea is settling to the stomach while crackers are absorbing. The absorption property of the crackers may absorb gas as they pass through the body while tea neutralizes acid causing gas.
Yogurt eaten daily may better control gaseous nights.
Baking soda taken as directed by the instructions on the box may be an aid in stabilizing gas blowouts. It might improve the capability of the body’s digestive system and reduce odor in the mini-explosions of one’s sleep.
“Thermal heat-cold Patches” or arthritic rubs & creams placed on the stomach might reduce pressure to release gas.
A water bottle on the stomach may also work.
Exercise before bedtime can not only help you to sleep better but it might just burn off gas. Exercise can get rid of some of the toxins that build up in the body. It can also expel toxins through sweating.
If nothing seems to work diapers or thick padding placed over the lower body, buttocks, could muffle and reduce the noise & gas dispensed from a toot.
