If you have a home on the market, decorating it during the holiday season is a great idea. When people are coming to view your home, you want it to exude warmth and comfort. Your goal during the holidays is to create an atmosphere within the home that potential buyers can relate to. They need to visualize themselves and their family members happily living in the home. Below are a few staging ideas for you to consider this holiday season.
Scents – There are many scents that people instantly recognize and associate with the holidays. Some wonderful aromas to add inside the home are apple, pumpkin pie, cinnamon and peppermint. The scents will set a soothing mood in your home. You can fill your house with these aromas by burning scented candles or using an aromatherapy oil burner.
Seasonal Colors – Using seasonal colors throughout the home is highly recommended. Display seasonal colors in the bedroom fabrics, throw pillows and towels in the bathroom. The softer, the better!
Nature Décor – Small pumpkins and gourds inside of the home during autumn would be fantastic natural décor. Later in the year, consider placing a poinsettia near the entrance of the home or in a family room. You can easily prepare a decorative bowl filled with pine cones, acorns and cinnamon sticks.
Outdoor Décor – In the fall season, a pumpkin or two would be appropriate to place near the door or on the porch. Mums would also add a colorful touch outside. Steer clear of any Halloween decorations. If you feel the need to add anything else, think of something neutral like a classic scarecrow in the yard. Adding holiday décor is great but make sure it is not cheap looking, dirty or something that may clutter the area.
If you are staging the home in the winter season, hanging a wreath on the front door is a very welcoming symbol. White lights are also a lovely touch. Refrain from any type of blow-up decorations or items that are very large and take up too much space. Keep in mind you do not want to add anything that may look cheesy, such as peel off window decals. Lean towards artsy wooden reindeers in the yard or porch. Try to choose décor that people from all religious backgrounds are comfortable with. You don’t want to make anyone feel out of place.
