With the recession on, many dreams have died or been put on hold. One of those dreams or usual enjoyments of life is that of a vacation. Well don’t lose hope. It’s possible to enjoy a vacation for free!
“A vacation for free?” one may be thinking. Yes it is possible with a little ingenuity to enjoy a vacation for free. This involves enjoying the great outdoors as part of one’s vacation.
To be able to vacation for free one must enjoy being outdoors and doing things like hiking, camping and nature walks. One of the great resources for this free vacation is our National Forests System in the USA. One can camp in almost every National Forest for absolutely free if they are dispersed camping or camping where there are no facilities.
While this may sound awful to some, it offers a way to still have a vacation and not cost a dime. The National Forests allow one to come in with a tent or RV and park and set up camp anywhere on the forest for up to 14 days free of charge. The only thing they ask is that one take care of the area they camp and take all of their trash when they leave. This is a great asset of knowledge in a time when vacations seem almost impossible to enjoy. Well there is certainly more than just camping to enjoy in the National Forests.
In addition to camping, many National Forests offer great lakes and rivers for swimming in and also many other attractions. One of the other attractions are nature trails to walk with interpretive tours held by park rangers that are free to attend where one can learn about the animals and plant life of the forest they have chosen to visit. Another attraction that one can enjoy in the National Forests is Geo-caching. This is a hobby where some people have left prizes to be shared with others in containers spread throughout the nation. One can think of it as a kind of treasure hunt. These are just a couple of the free attractions to be found in the National Forests.
One can see many parts of the country just as they were back during the pioneer days in the National Forests. In the Western USA, there are many areas of the National Forests where there are mountains, scenic drives, and scenic hiking trails where the land has been left untouched by man and is splendid in natural beauty much as it was during the pioneer’s days. This can be of great joy to those that enjoy hobbies such as finding flowers and birdwatching. And as before the price is the best – FREE!
Well here’s hoping that one will still be able to have a happy vacation. Maybe now with this information this year’s vacation won’t seem like such a lost dream.
