Tapered candles are great to have around especially if you like to entertain. They also make wonderful and inexpensive hostess gifts.
Unfortunately they can be difficult to wrap and store. That is unless you take a few minutes to create a personalized, eco-friendly and inexpensive decorative candle holder.
This craft relies on an empty potato chip canister as a base.
In no time and with little supplies you can turn it into a unique and decorative tapered candle holder that makes either a great gift for a friend or looks wonderful on your holiday mantelpiece.
Keep in mind that you can custom design the canister’s décor to match any color scheme or party theme. That makes this craft versatile as well!
To make this craft you will need to gather together the following items;
• Cylinder shaped cardboard potato chip container
• Transparent tape
• Organza Ribbons in colors of choice
• Wrapping paper of choice
• Foil wrapped decorative wire
• Small pine cones
• Cinnamon sticks
• Acrylic paint in assorted colors
• Small paint brush
• Glue gun and glue sticks
• Tapered candles in assorted colors
Step One: Measure the size of the canister and then transfer the measurements to the wrapping paper you have chosen to use in this project.
Step Two: Cut the wrapping paper so that it matches the size of the canister. Then affix the wrapping paper to the can with the translucent tape.
Step Three: Take the cinnamon sticks and use the acrylic paint and paint brush to paint a design onto the tops of the sticks. I personally like using snowmen designs because they are more specific to a season as opposed to one holiday. Allow the paint to dry.
Step Four: Continue by taking the small pine cones and use the acrylic paint and paint brush to paint either snow or gold leaf onto the edges of the pine cones for decoration. Allow the pine cones to dry.
Step Five: Use the foil wrapped decorative wire to connect together the cinnamon sticks and pine cones. Attach the wire to the center of an organza ribbon and then wrap the ribbon around the canister.
You may want to use a small bead of glue to help hold the wire and ribbon in place.
Step Six: Take your bunch of tapered candles and tie them together with a pretty organza ribbon. Place the candles into the decorative canister.
You are now ready to either display the candles on your shelf or give them away as a hostess gift.
Most of the items needed for this craft can be purchased at your local craft store or dollar store.
Dollar stores and grocery stores are also perfect places to find the potato chip canisters at relatively inexpensive prices.
