Every time the season changes, my husband’s eyes are full of panic. (Not that he doesn’t love the different seasons we have out of here, he’s just mourning his credit card bills in advance). I’m not what you call, a planned buyer. So every time it gets hotter or cooler, turns out that I have nothing to wear. So this year, I’ve decided to tackle fall with an action plan of my own, and I’m making this humiliation public, so the rest of you unplanned buyers can take home some tips too.
The best way to have enough clothes without spending too much money is to make your existing wardrobe and transition into the next season. I know that seems like a very basic rule of thumb for most of you, but it is something I’ve learned the hard and very expensive way, so bear with me. Adding a few well-thought out pieces will help you create new looks that will take your summer wardrobe through fall.
Leggings and tights
This fall I’m going to pick up several pairs of tights and leggings, and pair them with tunics, skirts and dresses. Another idea is to pair them with shorts and layer with a cropped jacket on top. One boring black is a must in your as it just goes with everything, but for the adventurous days you can stock up on coloured tights from www.welovecolors.com.
Hello gorgeous! This is one investment I’m dying to make. Every girl needs at least one pair of boots in her closet, and you would never believe me if I told you that I didn’t have even a single one. But not to worry, I’ve picked out some favorites at DSW that will serve my purpose beautifully. Petite women would do well to stay away from calf-length and over-the-knee boots.
The lack of boots in my closet is more than compensated by the many scarves. I love scarves… in all shapes, sizes and colors. I’m currently scouring through the world wide web for my next find. Scarves can dress up the most basic outfit and they complement everything. You can wear a scarf with a dress or with a tank and a pair of jeans, and voila! Instant glam.
Over the top is not necessarily a bad thing, especially if it’s a cute cardigan that you’re wearing over your top… Fall is best friends with layers, they always get along like a house on fire. So pull out some cardigans to wear over the cute tops that you bought this summer and you have yet another outfit.
This is what I’m going to start with, but I’m still leaving room for last minute ideas and other such eureka moments. Let me know how this works for you.
