In this tutorial, I will show users how to turn their Xoops site on and off. Sometimes when you are updating your Xoops site, you will want to take it offline to do so. If this is the case, this tutorial will help you. This tutorial will show you how to turn your site off, display a site message for visitors, and turn it back on when you are ready. Most of the things you do when creating a site in Xoops will go live as time as you do it, so that is another reason to take your site offline while you are making changes to it.
Log into your Xoops admin and click the Administration Menu button. Once you are inside the admin area, click the Preferences button located in the Control Panel. Next, click the Edit link found next to the General Settings option. This is the page where you will take your site on and offline.
You will need to scroll your page down until you see the Turn Off Site box. Once you find that box, you are in the right section. There are three sections you will use to turn your site on and off. All three of them are right together.
To turn your site off, you will need to click the Yes option in the Turn Your Site Off field. Then you can choose to display a message to your visitors. In the Reason of Turning Off Your Site box, you will need to type your message. You can leave the message that is in there, or you can delete it and type your own.
You can also select who can view the site while you are offline. For example, if you wanted registered users to be able to see the site, you can select them in the box. To do this, you will need to select who you want in the box that says Select Groups That are Allowed to Access Site While Offline. To select more than one group, hold your CTRL key down while you are clicking.
Now you can scroll to the very bottom of the page you are on and click the Go button. Your site will then be offline until you put it back online. To put your site back online, you will need to open the same page again. This time you will need to click the No option for turning your site off. Then scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Go button to turn it back on.
