I always end up with leftover french fries when I eat out. So does my husband. So does my son. There is always a good serving or two of fries left when we are done eating! And no one likes to eat those dang leftover fries. If you actually stuff the fries into a box and bring them home, chances are they will be microwaved into a soggy mess or simply tossed into the garbage. Well here are some tips on sprucing up those fries!
*Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and dump the cold fries onto a baking sheet.
*Drizzle olive oil over the fries.
*Season them with chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, and pepper. I use a lot of chili powder, but you can use however much of any seasoning you want. Then use a spatula to flip the fries around to distribute the seasonings and oil evenly.
*Cook until they are heated through and crisp enough according to your preference.
Now, you can eat them like this or dip in ketchup, barbecue sauce, or fry sauce (ketchup and mayo). OR you can take it a step further.
*Dump a can of chili or chili beans into a pot and heat. Spread some on a plate of cooked fries and sprinkle on some cheese. Presto – chili fries!
If you don’t want to eat your leftover french fries right away, freeze them! Then just cook them in the oven whenever you feel like eating some fries. This also keeps you from eating fries for multiple days in a row.
Here’s one last experimental way to reuse french fries. This might not work for some fries, but for some, this turns out pretty darn well.
*Drizzle olive oil into a pan and heat on high. While heating up, chop you fries into small bits (think hashbrowns). Toss the newly diced fries into the oil.
*Whip up some scrambled eggs and maybe some form of meat (e.g. sausage, kielbasa, or bacon).
*When all ingredients are cooked, mix together on a plate and top with shredded cheese. Voila! A breakfast skillet.
Hopefully, these ideas are enough to keep you from tossing those leftover french fries. No longer will you have guilt in not finishing the heaping piles of fries in one sitting.
