The Auction House in World of Warcraft is a great tool for finding weapons, armor, trade goods, and other items such as recipes or ingredients. The Auction House UI allows you to buy and sell much like EBay. You can search, bid on, list or check on your auctions.
There are two factions in World of Warcraft, the Horde and the Alliance. Each faction has its own auction houses. In neutral areas they share the same auction houses.
Horde Auction Houses:
Silvermoon City/Eversong Woods/ The Bazaar/ Royal Exchange
Alliance Auction Houses:
Stormwind/ Elwynne Forest
The Exodar/Azuremyste Isle
Neutral Auction Houses:
Booty Bay/Stranglethorn Vale
To find items in the Auction UI you must first right click on the auctioneer. This will bring up the UI. You can then search buy keyword or buy category. After you have entered your key words or chosen a category simply click search. This will bring up a list of available items that meet your criteria.
To bid on one of the items in your search results simply click on it. The UI will show you the item and a default bid amount. You can then change the bid amount or leave it at the default amount. After you are satisfied with the bid amount, click on the bid button. If the item has a buyout button you may purchase the item right away for the specified price. If you purchase the item at the buyout price the amount will automatically be deducted and the item mailed to you via the in game mail system.
Checking on Your Bids:
After you bid on an item you can check on it by clicking on the second bid tab on the bottom of the UI. This will show you the item, time left on the auction, the buyout price, and whether you have the highest bid or have been outbid.
Length of Auctions:
Auction length ranges from 30 minutes- 48 hours. Always keep in mind that game time continues when you are logged out or when the server is down for patches. If you list an item for auction right before a patch there may not be anyone around to bid on it.
To sell items in the Auction House UI click on the Auction tab. Drag the item or items that you wish to sell into the auction item slot. Enter the beginning price, how long you want the auction to last, and a buyout price if you choose. Entering a buyout price is often useful for items that people need quickly, like items for recipes or quests. The people buying these items do not want to wait for an auction to end in two days.
When you list an item in the Auction House you will be charged a deposit fee. This deposit fee will be put in escrow or saved until your auction ends. If you sell the item the fee will be returned minus a 5% fee (a 15% fee in neutral zones). If your auction ends without selling the entire deposit will be lost.
When your item sells the purchase price will be mailed to you via the in game mail system.
Checking Your Auctions:
To the right side of the UI there is a list of your auctions, this list will show you all the details you need to know. The item, time left in the auction, and the current bid. You may also cancel an auction from this area. If you cancel the auction you will lost your deposit.
Always know what your item is worth. Look it up online, search for it in auction, ask other players, but find out what you should be charging before you set your price too high or too low.
The Auction House in World of Warcraft is a fun and profitable way of selling your extra items, and finding the items you need at great prices. It takes a little getting used to, but you will soon be a pro at buying and selling.
